my final choice of topic

The topic that I have chosen to do my I-Search on is Video Game Violence. I have chosen this topic because of the great deal of information I am finding, interest, and because I couldn't find anything else on my other topics.. This topic interests me a lot, and I would have done this for my I-Search last year but I didn't come up with the idea for doing this until it was already to late. This is a very controversial subject. for there is more then one side to choose on this subject. There is the side that people hate video games and want to see them burned and never played because they believe they are evil and that they cause health issues and addiction. then there is the side where people like video games and don't see them as a problem. and then there are other groups that believe in both of the groups, or only agree in some parts of both of them. I myself pertain to the group where we like video games and don't see them as an issue.

I was a bit nervous on having this be my subject for I wasn't sure how current the information I would be obtaining would be. But as I searched, and read I found a lot of current information. I checked the dates of the posts and the oldest one was probably a couple of months old. So it is still a fairly current topic.

It took me a while to find some useful information. I looked on some databases and didn't find a lot of valid and workable information. Except I started to find valid information on google news, and some other databases. It's just difficult to find the right words to type in so you can get some workable information.

I wasn't very worried about availability of information. When I found the right words I got such large amounts of information I had to pick and choose which articles I wanted to read. every once in a while I wont find any information but then I will find a surplus of articles. I could also interview kids on their opinions on this subject, and I could interview their parents. This is also an ongoing thing so if I dont find a lot of information right now. I could find a lot more in lets say two weeks.

Reaserching this topic will be chalenging for me because, a lot of information the information I get will contradict my ideas and views on the subject. therefor I must be willing to change and listen to the other views. I might find some information that is so random that it doesnt have anything to do with the topic, so I must be able to distinguish the truth, from lies, and from opinions.
Video game violence is a really controversial issue so I think your going to have a lot of information on that topic. Its always beneficial to find a topic that make people talk and debate like the one you have because your readers will relate to both sides. I would really dive into hard hitting questions like is letting your child play violent video games bad parenting? Does it in fact have effects on the brain that make kids think killing is okay? Does it give children the false sense of security that there will always be a "reset" button when you mess up or do something as terrible as murder? You can also look into the effects on the brain and do these games effect you differently at different ages. You may also want to try to compare video games now and ones 50 years ago have they changed and has that made a difference or effected the public.
Good luck!

Luca's Review

I think that the topic on video game violence is a great idea! I think that with this topic, you will be able to find tons of on going information. You could interview tons of different people. For example, if you wanted to see how video games effect younger kids vs. teenagers, you could interview them. You could also interview some of the companies that sell the games, to figure out what they think. You could research how the video games are rated, if they are not rated strong enough, or if they are rated to hard. I'm sure that you will be able to find some good information in books, magazines, newspapers, and on the internet. I have also noticed that there is alot of information about video game violence in the news as well. I am interested to see what information you come up with.
