German Social Affairs Minister Wants WoW Rated "Adults Only"
I used this article because this article was sort of a response article to my article #10. In article #10 I said that a 17 year old child went on a killing spree and killed 15 people. Well because of that Germany is now trying to impose age restrictions on video games. I think that that is wonderful. I love that countries are finally coming to their senses and saying "if we don't do something, it will get out of hand." And to a certain point it already has. This adds to my topic because I have now gained information saying that people are trying to stop video games addiction/ violence and that people are also willing to listen. This does deepen my knowledge of this subject. It does not introduce new ideas.

• "This latest uproar against videogames comes in response to the murders of 15 people in the German town of Winnenden by a 17-year-old teenager who played videogames including Counter-Strike and far cry 2. Excited media reports following the killing spree made a point of mentioning his gaming habits and while German authorities appeared eager to place the blame on violent games, there appears to be little concern over the fact that he was a troubled youth who was receiving counseling for depression and apparently had ready access to his father's collection of 15 firearms."

In this article it says that a 17 year old child went on a shooting spree at his school. He killed 15 people. They are unclear of his motives. They blame video games. They said he played the game "Counter strike" very often and was what people would say "addicted" What I don't get is why people blame video games for this. He stole his fathers gun and ammunition from his fathers bedroom, and he was chronically depressed. There is no way they can blame video games for this. The game "counter strike" is an ego shooter (it congratulates you and praises you when you kill things) but it can't be the main reason a kid goes on a shooting spree and kills 15 people. Also it says that governments are looking to make the age requirements for the game World of Warcraft 18+ only. I like that idea. it will stop kids from purchasing the game and will hopefully lower the population of kids that play the game. this adds to what i have learned because it helps reaffirm that video games can be very harmful to kids. this article however does not change my thinking or deepend my knowledge on his subject. this does not introduce new ideas or lead to new questions.

Violent games and minors debate flares up in Germany

• 14,000 9th graders are said to be addicted currently ( to video games)
• "The study surveyed 44,610 9th graders. 15.8 percent of boys and 4.3 percent of girls were discovered to have "excessive" playing habits with more than 4.5 hours spent on the computer each day. While 14,000 of these kids were labeled as gaming addicts, more than 23,000 other participants were considered in danger of becoming addicted."
• Minister for Social Affairs Mechthild Ross-Luttmann suggested that a general age restriction should be placed on video games. and that the game World of Warcraft should be only allowed to be sold to adults
• PC game expert Andreas Rosenfelder, on the other hand, feels that such measures are too drastic, stating, “I don’t see a connection between digital role playing games like World of Warcraft and shooting sprees."
